Homeschool Meet-Up

Hi Folks!

We've put our heads together and decided to take the plunge and invite you all to a Get-Together - a Homeschool Huddle, if you will.
We felt it would be great to have an opportunity for homeschoolers to get together on a regular basis, but with a low commitment threshold.  To this end, we've set a date to begin and hope to meet monthly.  This is a very open-format.  We want kids to meet other kids, mums to meet other mums, to brainstorm, share ideas and resources, make plans for homeschool outings, and just have fun.
The Hokitika Holiday Park is a great venue to start with, as it has a playground that caters to all ages, a bike track across the road (byo bike), and a large lounge with a log fire and good kitchen/dining area for a rainy day.
It is a holiday park, so it is a bring your own/tidy up after yourself/at your own risk area.  Bring your own mugs/drinks and afternoon tea to share.  There is a coffee dispenser in the office, and if you bring your own mug, it puts out a fairly acceptable coffee or hot chocolate for two dollars.  The kitchen offers hot water if you want to bring something with which to make a drink.  If it's really wet, bring a game or activity, if you have one, to engage the kids indoors.
Our plan is to open this up monthly, beginning next term.  Come if you can, as you can, with what you can - this is supposed to be easy!
Forward this to anyone interested - prospective homeschoolers are most welcome to come and explore and ask questions.

Date: Tuesday, 3 August, 2021
Venue: Hokitika Holiday Park, 11 Providence Drive
Time: 1.30pm-3.30ish
Bring: own mug and drinks (or $2), some afternoon tea, the kids!

Hi Fantastic Home Educators!

Introducing a new community space in Greymouth, open for the public to drop in, play, chat and create, during 9-2:30 Thursday and Friday. It is overseen by the Home Builders Trust and is a lovely venue. The Nest is located at the old Mason's pharmacy building and it's facilitator Bronte also runs art classes for primary school aged children after school hours.
She also ran a school holiday programme for 8-12 y/o's over summer and will be doing this again in future holidays.
To register interest in the activities she runs please either pop in and talk to her in the open hours, or email Bronte on bbbs@homebuildersgrey.co.nz  She has written a blurb on the vision behind "The Nest" in blue below my note and also suggested we might wish to run a monthly catch up from there - I was already playing with the idea of seeing if anyone would be keen to take turn with others in organising an activity or segment of something using or sharing their skills with others! Send me any ideas and we can put together a group brainstorm of possibilities! My email is flyaelizabeth@gmail.com

On a side note, I had a heart op last year and am due to deliver another member of our family in a couple of weeks, all of which put alot of dreamed up stuff and plans on the go slow!

I hope all is well for you and yours, Sincere Regards, Elizabeth Trip

The nest  is all about creativity.  This is a dynamic space in Greymouth CBD, with the focus to support the wellbeing and growth of our community.  A big part of this space is working together as a community.  We want to support other people, groups and organisations by offering our vibrant, versatile space for hire.

We charge 35hr+GST,  but when you hire our space you don't just get a room you also get access to our art supplies, toys, books and tea and coffee.

We also have a pool table, DVD's, PlayStation and a book swap library.

To book our space contact our office

Phone: 03-788 8065

Bronte
