RYDA Road Safety Education opportunity for students

Hi all

Ivan Wilson and I are facilitator's for the RYDA Road Safety Education programme event happening next Thursday 11th May 9.30 am – 2pm at St John Headquarters, 112 Waterwalk Road.

The programme is very short of numbers and risks being pulled (only 22 students currently enrolled and only  two students from Grey High).   RYDA is designed for 16-18 year old students who are approaching that crucial time in their lives where they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of novice drivers.  As such, enrolment is now open for polytechnic students also.  It would be great if we could send some class groups along to support this fantastic initiative.  If you know of any other youth groups that may be interested please forward this on.

More information about the programme is available from: http://www.rse.org.au/programs/ryda/ (plus a short summary below)

If you would like to give your class the opportunity to attend please contact:

Tim Hartnell RYDA Programme Coordinator South Island

southisland@rse.org.nz  or 027 203 7006

There is a small fee of $15 per student (but if you're students are interested and this is going to be a barrier for them please have a chat with Tim.

More info:

At RYDA, students attend six interactive sessions where they are challenged to change the way they think about road safety; participating in a stopping distance demonstration, devising personalised strategies, gaining an understanding of their individual risk profile and getting tips from road safety experts on how to protect themselves, their friends and family.

The learning objectives for students attending RYDA are:

Fwd: Are we disaster ready?

Could I have expressions of interest for this so I can confirm the session, please?  Younger children also welcome.

Are we disaster ready?

The Westland District Library has been working in collaboration with Claire Brown, Emergency Management Officer at Westland District Council, to develop a Civil Defence display on the library mezzanine which highlights many useful ways to prepare for a natural disaster.

Claire will be running a one hour session each Thursday 10.00am during Term 2 starting on 11th May for Year 4 students and older.  There will be a quiz, questions, heaps of great tips and best of all… prizes.

We would like to invite your home school students to join us on the 11th May. Please let me know if this date doesn't work and I'll look into other dates.

Kind regards
