Fwd: Shantytown date

Hey guys

Third time lucky for our Shantytown day 😂 Seeing as there is a public holiday on the Monday now, we've changed to solely the Tuesday 27th for our visit. They've extended numbers up to 40 students, so still plenty of room.

If you haven't already booked in for Tuesday, or if you've booked in for Monday but Tuesday could work, please let me know by Monday 19th September.

Thanks for your flexibility!

Shantytown visits

Morning everybody

After our last Shantytown day being postponed due to teacher illness, we have some new dates.

Due to the high level of interest last time, I've booked in two dates for the next visit. Feel free to share this email with your homeschooling friends who might not be on this list, we've got plenty of room this time.

On Monday, 26th September, and Tuesday 27th September beginning at 10am we have an "All about pirates" math day at Shantytown. This is for children aged 4 and up. If you have older tween/teenage children they'll have the opportunity to help/lead one of 5 small groups during the day.

There will be a prize for best dressed pirate, so if your kids are keen, they can come dressed up for a day of clue-finding and treasure-seeking. There will also be a ride on the train during the day.

If you're keen to come along, please email me with your child/children's age by Monday, 19th September.

You'll need to bring morning tea and lunch for your child, and appropriate clothing for the weather, as this will go ahead in all weather apart from torrential rain. The cost is $4/school age child. Adults and preschoolers are free.

The day finishes at approximately 2.15pm.

Hope to see you there!

Shelley

Hi folks!

Next week is the first Tuesday of the month, so we will be at the Hokitika Holiday Park from 1.30pm onwards.

The weather looks pretty awful, so we will bring some games.  If you have a fun game or puzzle, bring it along!

Fwd: Training Opportunity

I thought it would be worth passing this on to you in case you know of anyone interested in the homeschool community:

AXIOM will be holding a FREE 14 week course in August which is funded by MSD. This course will cover Career Preparation for Civil Construction and the students will graduate with Class 2, OSH, H&S, Forklift, Dangerous goods and First Aid.

Conditions are students must be able to support themselves for the 14 weeks and have a full licence or close to gaining their full licence.

If you know of anyone that might be interested please ask them to get in touch with me and I will refer them.

Hope all is well.

Warm regards,

Charlotte

Hi Ladies,

Some of you I have already spoken to, some of you I just thought you might be interested. I'm part of a group organising a retreat for Christian Home Educating mums in the South Island. It's in the first weekend of September.

I've attached a flyer as well as the link to the website (which will go live in a few days).

It's a lovely opportunity for a chance to have a wee break away from the craziness of life as we know it :)

Feel free to pass it on to any others who may be interested.

With love in Christ,

Lauretta Duinkerke

Fwd: Evening with Chris Long - "The boy from Gorge River"

Hello everyone

Bruce from the Hokitika Regent Theatre rang me this morning to tell me about a great opportunity for us to come and hear Chris Long, son of 'Beansprout', this Saturday evening, July 2, from 6.30pm. He is giving an illustrated talk about his life and his book "The boy from Gorge river".

Chris grew up in the remote area of Gorge River, South Westland with his Mum, Dad and sister. He was homeschooled, and has many inspiring stories from his life and travels around the world.

Please find attached a poster with further information.

You will be able to purchase books during the evening, and supper is provided along with a chance for Q&A with the Long family.

Tickets are available from the Theatre or on www.hokitikaregent.com $10 adult, $5 students.

Hope you're having a fantastic Thursday.

Things to remember.

  1. There is no charge to attend.
  2. We encourage you to bring along any secondary-aged students as there is a lot of information that may well be relevant to them and their future aspirations. You are also welcome to bring younger children, but if you do, please bring something for them to do as we cannot cater for them.
  3. You are welcome to invite other folk along who may be interested in Christian homeschooling, but please be aware that this round of meetings will mainly focus on in-house, HSNZ matters.
  4. We rarely email people in this manner. Nearly all information is posted up on the online Noticeboard. Any changes to our timetable will be posted up there. Please ensure that you are regularly checking that website for the latest news and updates.
  5. You needn't tell us if you are or aren't coming. If you are coming, just turn up. If you aren't coming, however, the burden is still upon you to meet the training seminar requirement. We can do no more than make these available as best we can right around the nation. Telling us that you can't make it to a meeting does not mean that you are excused from the requirement, and we cannot solve any subsequent issues that arise from that. We do suggest though that if one venue does not work for you, try another one. .

Looking forward to catching up with you.

Homeschool Huddle

Hi there, folks!

Covid has made a bit of a mess of our plans to meet regularly, but we're going to give it another go.  We were meeting on the first Tuesday of every month.  That makes the next meeting on the 7th of June.
I'm fairly flexible, though, so if you're keen to come and that doesn't work for you, please reply and we can try and make it another day.  If Tuesday is the best day for you and changing it is a problem, please reply, too, so we know where we are.  I'll do my best to make it work for the largest number.
We've been meeting at the Hokitika Holiday Park at 1pm.

Look forward to catching up.

Kim
