Cross Country Run & more,
picnic lunch followed by an Educational Resources Buy/Sell/Swap-meet

(This is simply 2 mum's organising 2 events sharing one day, so helpers welcome!)

Where: on the 6th of December, at the Nelson Creek Reserve and/or Hall.

Wet weather alternative for the run is games in the hall.

If good weather the  Educational Resources Buy/Sell/Swap-meet  will be run Car Boot Sale style.

When: Running kicks off @ 10:30

Picnic at noon

At 1:30 the Educational Resources Buy/Sell/Swap-meet will start.

Bring: Weather appropriate activity apparel such as shoes, coat, sunscreen, hats etc.
Food & drinks,
Resources to buy/sell/swap
Cash?
& willingness to participate!

Educational Resources Buy/Sell/Swap-meet details:
In the afternoon after the cross country run, sprints & other events, you have the opportunity to get your unneeded resources, books, gear & whatnot together & out of the house & come see if someone else needs them or if someone else has anything that you also may find useful!

It's up to you & any interested party to price/haggle/give/ swap or agree on payment options!

If it's good weather, we will do the Educational Resources Buy/Sell/Swap-meet car boot style so that parents don't have to drag their kids over to the hall or leave them at the reserve.
If it rains there's plenty of room in the hall for you to simply rock up, claim a space and set out your stuff that you want to see gone.

Last time this was held, there were some great resources going for pennies & everyone who came found at least one thing that they wanted!

Details about the running below.

The runners will start going to the racing spot at 10:30...

Please wear shoes as some of the run is on gravel.

The athletic events will be the following long distance options

1km - 5-7 year olds

2km 7-10 year olds

3 km 11 plus.

Sprints

Long jump

Shotput (maybe)

Parent's race.... (!!    ;)

Don't worry if you've never done them before! Just have a go and do your best.

The cross country run will go from 10:30 - 11 and then the other events will happen simultaneously with kids splitting up into groups. I'd love parent helpers. If you're keen to help, please let Lauretta know before hand (email below) so that I (Lauretta) can coordinate it and ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.

It would be great if you could register participants before hand. This is not essential but it would be helpful. Names and ages (Parents don't have to register their age :P)

Contact email for run participants and/or parent helpers is jairandrets@protonmail.com or text 0274239902

The beauty of families living out education is that it is flexible & there is no one right way to do it, but we all thrive in community, so all styles and flavours welcome!

Feel free to forward to any other home un/school families you know.

Looking forward to meeting you there!

Sincerely, Elizabeth and Lauretta

Fwd: Shantytown trip - 14th November

Good afternoon everyone,

We have a trip booked in to go to Shantytown on Tuesday, 14th November.

This trips theme is 'Rongoā'. Rongoā is the traditional Māori healing system that often includes using the medicinal properties of New Zealand native plants.

The children will learn ways of identifying plants and discuss how native plants were used for clothing, craft, construction, and medicinal purposes.

There will be a train ride during the day, and a short bush walk to identify native plants.

The cost is $5.00 per student. Parents and caregivers are free.

Bring a packed lunch along with morning and afternoon tea, and a drink bottle. Pack clothing & footwear appropriate for the weather. This day will go ahead in all weather except for torrential rain.

Please email me on this email address and let me know if you're coming by this Friday, 10th November, including the age/s of your child/children attending.

Hope you all have a great week.

Shelley 😄

CES curriculum fair and career seminar

Hi folks,

Please see the attached flyer.  It would be great if you could contact cesbooks@xtra.co.nz with an indication of interest, as they are questioning whether it is worth coming.
It is very rare that we can see a variety curricula here on the Coast, so it's worth going for a browse.

Fwd: Christina Green (CES)

This year, we are embarking on another NZ Tour, providing a Curriculum Expo as well as Career Discovery Seminars for teenagers.  The Curriculum Expo is completely free for parents with children of all ages. Preschool, Primary, Intermediate and High School.

However, parents need to book their teenage into the Career Seminars at the location of their choice. Although the two events are run at the same time, in the same venue, but in different rooms.

The attached flyer has all the details but if anyone has any further queries, they just need to email me at cesbooks@xtra.co.nz

Hopefully, it will be of help to people, giving them plenty of time to book the date and make the most of the Early Bird special.

Kind regards,
Christina Green

Photo competition

Kia ora,

I wondered whether you had any West Coast (South Island) home schooling groups who would be interested in the following opprtunity:

Happy Sea Week 2023!

Hope all is well with you and your wider whānau. I wondered whether you would be happy to share the following opportunity with your tamariki, rangatahi, and adults too!

We are supporting Sea Week and encouraging people to get out and 'connect with our seas': toi moana, toi tangata. We have a photo competition with four age categories. There will be prizes for winners and runner ups in each section. The winning photos will also be celebrated in displays across visitor centres and libraries along the West Coast.

We would love to receive as many entries as possible to see people out enjoying our beautiful coast and helping our seas.

If you would like any more resources about marine reserves or Sea Week then do get in touch and I would be happy to share.

More information about Sea Week can be found here: Home (seaweek.org.nz)

More information and the Ts and Cs can also be found: West Coast photo competition for Seaweek (doc.govt.nz)

We look forward to seeing your entries and wish you all the best. Take care.
