Dear Homeschool Family,
Each year we endeavour to get around the country and catch up with as many families as possible. We do this by holding get-togethers in key locations within a certain area. Obviously, we cannot visit every single small town, but with very few exceptions, we do hope to be somewhere this year that is no more than 30-40 minutes away from your home (and hopefully closer).
These get-togethers are very useful for a bunch of reasons: they keep folk up to date with the latest news and developments, families meet other homeschooling families in their area and develop networking relationships, all sorts of questions get answered, older students get to hear and ask questions about potential career pathways and we all get to put faces to names. For new families, these meetings also serve as the "face-to-face" training meeting mentioned in your enrolment material.
Significantly too, the Ministry of Education knows that we do this "in-service training", and it is one of the reasons for the confidence they have in HSNZ and why they view and treat us as a respected part of the educational establishment.
It is a substantial logistical operation getting travel schedules organised and we do need people to work with us in this. It is also costly, and so it is disappointing when we get to an area that is within easy reach of numerous families only to find that hardly anyone turns up.
Please……wherever humanly possible, do make the effort.
